Taiichi Ohno singled out overproduction as the most serious of the seven wastes at Toyota, because making too much too early is what generates excess inventory, transportation, and waiting.

Why it matters

Overproduction is treated as the root waste: it buries cash in stock, fills the plant with parts nobody ordered yet, and hides quality problems inside batches, so pulling to real demand keeps the whole system honest.
