Daily 3S Routine: Sweep, Sort, Standardize After the Morning Meeting
A short daily reset where every team cleans and maintains its own area keeps order from drifting.

Workspaces slowly slide back into clutter and disorder between big cleanups, hiding tools, and slowing work.
After the daily morning meeting, the whole shop moves into 3S time: sweep, sort, and standardize. Each area has an assigned crew who cleans and resets it, and tasks like the bathroom rotate on a turn-based schedule.
Small daily standard work maintains order better than occasional deep cleans.
What is a Daily 3S Routine?
3S is a trimmed version of the 5S workplace organization method, focused on the daily habits that keep an area in shape: sweep (clean), sort (remove what does not belong), and standardize (return everything to its agreed home).
Here it runs as a fixed block right after the morning meeting. The shop is divided into areas, and each team owns the reset of its own space. Shared spaces like the bathroom rotate among people so no one area is neglected.
Because it happens every day and everyone follows the same steps and language, the standard becomes visible and self-reinforcing. Anyone can see when something is out of place and correct it.
Pairing it with improvement time turns the routine into more than cleaning: it becomes a daily moment to spot and fix small problems while they are still small.
Why it works
A daily 3S block makes the agreed standard for each area visible and repeatable, so proven order is reused instead of rediscovered.
- Assigned areas make ownership clear and mistakes easy to catch.
- A shared vocabulary lets the whole shop speak and learn the same way.
- Standardizing locks in the best known layout so it is not lost.
- Rotating shared tasks spreads knowledge and prevents blind spots.
- Bundling improvement time turns the reset into daily problem finding.
How to create this idea
- 1Anchor it to the morning meeting
Schedule a fixed 3S block right after the daily standup so it becomes routine, not optional.
- 2Divide the shop into areas
Map every space and assign a team responsible for cleaning and resetting each one.
- 3Teach the three steps
Train everyone to sweep, sort, and standardize using the same words so the standard is shared.
- 4Rotate shared spaces
Put common areas like the bathroom on a turn-based schedule so responsibility is shared.
- 5Add improvement time
Reserve part of the block to fix small issues surfaced while cleaning and resetting.
Best used when
- shared shop floor
- daily standups already run
- areas drift into clutter
Less useful when
- solo workspace
- no daily cadence
- highly variable layout
